The Story Behind Our Fabrics

Long before a BioMommie piece is cut and stitched, it starts as a decision about fabric — the part of the process that shapes everything else about how a garment feels, moves and holds up over time.

Why cotton interlock

We work primarily with cotton interlock — a double-knit construction that's naturally stretchy, resists curling at the edges, and holds its shape wash after wash. It's a fabric that behaves the way you'd want something worn against a baby's skin to behave: predictable, soft and steady.

Weight, considered

Every piece lists its GSM — the weight of the fabric per square metre — because weight changes how something feels and how it's best worn. Lighter weights suit warmer days and layering; heavier weights suit cooler seasons and standalone wear. We choose the weight for each piece deliberately, not by default.

Finishing is part of the fabric story too

A beautiful fabric can still be let down by careless finishing — a stiff seam, a scratchy tag, a snap that catches. So we look at construction and finishing with the same care as the fabric itself: flat seams where they matter most, soft covered snaps, and labels that don't sit against the skin.

It's a quieter kind of craftsmanship — the sort you notice not in a single glance, but in how a piece continues to feel good, wash after wash, month after month.
